Two Great Tips To Get A Golf Ball Out Of That Heavy Rough

It is a marvelous feeling to climb into your own Club Car golf cart or one of the club's cheap golf carts (such as their Bag Boy golf carts) with your friends and head off for a round of golf.

It might also be great, but some people might say a little boring, if you were able to keep your ball on the fairway and out of the rough and bunkers all the way to the green however in the real world that simply does not happen even for the very best of professional golfers.

All of us hit a few shots, or in some instances numerous shots, wide of the fairway and into a bunker or the rough but the real problem comes when your ball ends up in the heavy rough with grass clear up to your knees. When this happens all too many golfers take several 'hacks' to get their ball out and the hole turns into a complete disaster.

However, anybody who has ever seen the professionals at work will know only too well that this does not necessarily have to be a disaster. So, what then is their secret?

There are 2 secrets the first of which applies when your ball is in the heavy rough but is still some way from the green and the second applies whenever your ball is fairly close to the green.

If you are still some considerable distance from the flag then your aim should not be to increase distance from your shot but should just be to get your ball out of the rough and on the fairway so that you are then in a good position to get yourself onto the green.

In order to achieve this you will have to make use of a wedge or a nine iron, both of which have enough weight to deal with the long grass and sufficient loft to get your ball up into the air and clear of the grass fast.

Also, you must ensure that the club blade is open when you address the ball because the grass is going to take hold of the club head when you make your shot. You must then minimize the amount of grass that you are swinging through which requires you to make a very upright back swing and a hard down swing controlled with a firm left hand. This shot will not get you much distance however it will pop your ball up into the air swiftly and carry it forward enough to put you back on the fairway.

If you are fairly close to the green then this shot will also work extremely well but you have to take care to ensure that the ball does not then roll right through the green. In this instance therefore you must aim to hit two or three inches behind your ball and make sure that your shot has a complete follow through. This produces a shot very similar to that which you would use to get your ball out of a bunker and will not only fire the ball up into the air to clear the deep rough but will also produce a soft landing on the green and therefore minimize any forward roll.
