Cactus House Plants Really Are Attractive Plants That Will Beautify Any Home

The market in cactus house plants is thriving and with very good reason. These spiky little guys are great fun, easy to maintain and extremely attractive. So why do so many people ignore them?

Many individuals seem to have this concept that the cactus is a prickly little plant which does not actually add to the design of your room. Well these folks need to suppose again.

The first and most obvious species which is far from small, spiky and uninteresting is the Christmas cactus. This is a lovely plant to have around your house. It's also an easy plant to keep. This indoor plant doesn't like to get completely bone dry, but will only need watering every couple of weeks. If you are looking to encourage the plant to flower you can leave it in a cool part of the home for roughly two weeks, never put it in the freezing cold. This would then flower about four to six weeks after you return it to its normal place.

The simplicity of the care for this plant and the beauty make it an excellent holiday season present as it's guaranteed to decorate any home.

Along with the Christmas cactus there's also an Easter version. This has a larger range of colors of bloom including yellow, pink, peach, red and white. Similar to its Christmas cousin, flowering is triggered by the cold.

Admittedly the above two plants are a little different from the ordinary cactus house plants. But there are plenty of spiky cacti that have beautiful flowers which last a very long time.

The Barrel cactus is an excellent example of a spiky plant producing attractive flowers. The blooms are present in a large range, from striking red to a calm yellow. These flowers grow at the end to the prickles and actually utilized by the Native Americans in stews and boiled to make drinks.

One other cactus providing a pleasantly shocking flower is the Beavertail cacti. These plants could be low to the ground, but they have larger than expected red and lavender colored flowers. The flowers would usually be approximately 3 inches, so they create a gorgeous plant.

So rethink your image of cactus house plants and you would quickly realise that these are not little, spiky, unpleasant, desert plants.
